“Introducing the adidas Y-3 Gendo Run: A Fusion of Fashion and Functionality”
Yohji Yamamoto’s fashion line, Y-3, has unveiled the adidas Y-3 Gendo Run after teasing it in the Y-3 S/S24 Preview. In recent times, Y-3 has increasingly drawn inspiration from staple adidas products, as showcased by its tech-wear interpretations of classics like the Campus and Superstar in the aforementioned lookbook. While the Gendo Run may not have a direct comparison, it continues this trend with nods to models like the Samba through features like the suede cap and transparent mesh Three Stripes.
The Gendo Run strikes a balance between unconventional and traditional elements, all filtered through the distinct Y-3 lens. The upper, constructed from nylon mesh, is accented by a suede outline and a nylon strip bearing Yamamoto’s signature. At the rear, a leather overhang replaces the traditional pull tab, adding to the shoe’s distinctive silhouette.
The midsole, crafted with Pebax polymer technology, mirrors that of performance runners like the Saucony Endorphin and Nike Air Zoom Tempo Next%. Despite its futuristic design, the Gendo Run is engineered for practical use, signaling a new direction for the techwear brand. This blend of futuristic aesthetics and functional design reflects the overarching theme of Y-3’s latest collection: “sharp juxtapositions and visceral contrasts.”
The debut releases include an all-black pair and a cream pair, with the latter offering a more visually striking option. While both feature neutral tones, the cream pair stands out with its varied color palette, incorporating shades of grey, cream, and black.
Although the price for the adidas Y-3 Gendo Run has yet to be confirmed, both pairs are set to drop on March 12th. Stay tuned for official images of the Gendo Run’s inaugural releases.
