ASICS’ GEL-LYTE III has been quite busy this year, collaborating with Ronnie Fieg for his 99th and 100th projects with ASICS and releasing a variety of inline colorways, including a tribute to the Masters Tournament and a collection of “Colored Toe” styles. With the arrival of Spring, the iconic Shigeyuki Mitsui-designed silhouette is receiving yet another makeover, this time inspired by traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.
Part of ASICS’ “Ocha Zome” collection, the GEL-LYTE III “Rooibos” is constructed almost entirely with recycled textiles. Each panel is dyed using leftover ingredients from the production of matcha tea, resulting in a natural color for much of the shoe’s construction. The overlays and base offer a light and dark shade of brown, respectively, subtly resembling the look of unground tea leaves. The shoe is finished with distressed edges and a cream-colored bottom.
